EURASIA CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2013
As I am writing to share news about Eurasia, there are heavy floods in Central Vietnam. During my last stay in Hue, three typhoons
have severely damaged the region, and shortly afterwards, typhoon Haiyan that has caused so much destruction in the Philippines also
brought about suffering and destructions in the Hue region. It’s a difficult end of the year for the people of this part
of the world. These natural catastrophes also had some impact on our projects and programs this fall. We send all of our dear
members and friends our best wishes and good thoughts for Christmas and the New Year. Our prayers are with all those who suffer
from these terrible natural catastrophes. May the New Year bring Happiness, Comfort, Solidarity, Peace and Safety to all.
Training, learning and development at the Peaceful Bamboo
Family (Tinh Truc Gia or TTG), Vocational training center and living community for youngsters living with disabilities.
• Despite the bad weather, we were able to conduct
a training session for all the special educators and teachers from Hue. The theme was: “Social and Emotional Learning (ESL)”
About sixty educators joined the training.
• We also conducted an
internal training for our own staff and for the youngsters on the mid to long-‐term vision for our community.
• This summer, Mr. Tu, our Executive Director went to Germany to take part in an
intercultural training to learn how to better supervise international interns.
• Mr. Hai, a new staff member went to Bhutan for a youth camp learning and practicing Gross National Happiness, the development
philosophy of Bhutan.
• Mr. Tu and Mr. Hung our gardener went
to India in September for an intense training in ecological agriculture in Navdanya, the Earth University of the renowned ecologist Vandana
Shiva. They both came back full of enthusiasm and with many ideas on how to develop our biodynamic garden.
The extension of the biodynamic garden of the Peaceful Bamboo
We have found a wonderful plot of land adjacent
to our current garden. This additional land will allow us to develop further the vocational training and give meaningful work for
our youngsters. We also want to create training center in organic and biodynamic agriculture. Furthermore, it will enable us to create
income-‐generating activities and make the community financially more self-‐reliant. We are now fundraising for this project and would appreciate
any support to help us to buy the new land.
Early detection and early intervention office in Ho Chi Minh City and in Hue
Mr. Khanh, the representative of Eurasia in Vietnam has developed a very dynamic activity in the field of early detection and
intervention as well as counseling to parents of children with developmental problems. There are now two full time coworkers (educator
and psychologist) working with him in Ho Chi Minh City. He plans to start a training program for parents next year.
Special classes in primary school and special kindergarten in Hue
Eurasia has co-‐sponsored a new class for children with special needs
in a Primary School in Hue, and has also supported the creation of a special kindergarten unit within a large and innovative
kindergarten. Eurasia trains the teachers and also offers them supervision. The inclusive Kindergarten in the Peaceful Bamboo Family that we plan
to open this spring will be a training center for the kindergarten teachers of Hue City.
